Format CF in Windows XP

Postby JarikdenHartog » 05 Apr 2016, 12:28

First of all we discourage using Windows XP because support has ended: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/Windows ... xp-support

If you have to format a Compact Flash card of 1 or 2 GB or you are using Windows 7 or newer please see: https://youtu.be/Jju1RJplG60?t=1m49s

The problem is that Windows XP does not show the FAT option in the File system drop down menu for 4 GB CF card.

You can contact us to exchange you 4 GB for a 2 GB card (which is sufficient for 24 hour recordings) or you can follow the instruction for Windows XP below.

  1. Start Disk Management by pressing WindowsKey+R and typing "diskmgmt.msc" and hit Enter:

  2. Right click the partition called VU-AMS_DATA and make sure the drive letter matches that of your CF card (in this example G:):

  3. Click Format... and click Yes if you are sure you selected the Compact Flash card.
  4. Make sure the format setting match the setting in the screenshot below and click OK:

  5. Click OK on the warning "This volume will not be compatible with previous version of Microsoft..."
  6. Last change to check if you are going to format the CF card and not you USB stick or data partition!
  7. If you are sure click OK on the last warning.
  8. Wait for the formatting to finish.
  9. Verify if your CF card is indeed formatted FAT:
